Build Quality & Components

Constructed with Glock’s proven polymer frame and steel slide featuring nDLC nitride finish for corrosion resistance and durability, the Gen 6 incorporates refined internals (updated ejector, trigger bar) and enhanced frame contours for superior ergonomics. Fit and finish remain Glock-tight—smooth cycling, flawless feeding, and zero malfunctions in extensive testing—backed by the brand’s unmatched reputation for bombproof reliability across generations and environments.

Handguard & Modularity — Standout Feature

The new Gen 6 Optic-Ready System is a major leap—direct-milled slide with three included shock-absorbing plates enables low-profile mounting of popular red dots (RMR, Holosun K, etc.) without adapters or added height, preserving co-witness with standard irons. Full accessory rail for lights/lasers, plus 100% compatibility with legacy Glock magazines, sights, and most holsters. RTF6 texture, thumb ledge, and contoured frame enhance grip and recoil control; vast aftermarket support allows easy personalization for any role.

Accuracy & Performance

The 4.02″ barrel delivers excellent 9mm accuracy—1-2″ groups at 25 yards with quality ammo. Flat-faced trigger provides consistent, crisp pull for faster, more precise shots; improved texture, palm swells, and thumb ledge flatten recoil and boost control during rapid fire. Performance is flawless—thousands of rounds across various ammo types (including +P) with zero issues, faster follow-ups, and superior comfort in extended sessions.

Installation & Real-World Durability

Ready out of the box—load mag, rack slide, and shoot; optics mount directly with included plates and torque specs. Adjustable sights zero easily. Durability remains legendary: polymer/steel construction handles drops, weather, and high-round abuse; proven in LE/military use with minimal maintenance. New contours may need minor holster checks, but most legacy fits work fine.

Pros and Cons

  • Significantly improved ergonomics and recoil management
  • Excellent direct-milled optic-ready system with included plates
  • Full backward compatibility with legacy magazines/holsters

Final Verdict

The Glock 19 Gen 6 is the most refined, shootable, and user-friendly compact Glock ever—taking the Gen 5 foundation and adding exactly the ergonomic upgrades, grip texture, flat trigger, and optic system the community wanted, all at the same price. For concealed carry, duty, home defense, or range use in 2026, this is the compact 9mm to beat.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Gen 6 a big enough upgrade to trade in my Gen 5?

Yes for most shooters — the new grip texture, ergonomics, flat trigger, and improved optic system make a noticeable difference in comfort and performance.

Does it still use all my old Glock 19 magazines?

Yes — 100% backward compatible with every generation of Glock 9mm magazines.

How good is the factory optic-ready system?

Excellent. Direct-milled slide with three included shock-absorbing plates covers all major footprints with zero adapters needed.

Will my current holsters fit the Gen 6?

Most legacy holsters fit fine, but test-fit any kydex that clamps tightly on the new frame contours.

Is the new RTF6 grip texture too aggressive?

No — it’s aggressive enough for control in wet conditions but comfortable for all-day carry (a huge improvement over previous textures).

Does it come with a threaded barrel option?

Not at initial launch, but Glock has confirmed threaded-barrel models will follow shortly after release.

Is the Gen 6 worth the MSRP of $745?

Absolutely — you get meaningful upgrades with no price increase over the previous Gen 5 MOS models.

Will suppressor-height sights co-witness?

Yes — the new lower optic mounting height allows true co-witness with standard irons and lower 1/3 with suppressor-height sights.

Full Video Transcript – Glock 19 Gen 6 Review

0:05 Hey everybody, welcome back to the Armed Scotsman. Today on the table we have a Glock 19 Gen 6. Let’s get this one going.

0:30 What’s in the box: Glock 19 Gen 6, three 15-round magazines (where legal), backstraps, optics plates, speed loader, hard case, and lock.

1:10 The magwell is slightly flared. The biggest upgrade is the grip. Glock added very aggressive texturing all around, a much better trigger undercut, an extended beavertail, and front serrations on the grip. It feels significantly better in the hand than previous generations.

2:26 The mag release is standard (reversible), and they’ve added ledges on either side of the trigger guard. The slide release has been beefed up on both sides.

3:08 You get front and rear serrations (front ones are chunkier and I like them). It has the standard Glock rail for lights.

3:41 The stock sights are the basic Glock plastic ones — they’ll be changed immediately. Good news: all standard Glock sights work, no special Gen 6 sights needed.

4:19 The new optics mounting system is a big improvement over the old MOS. It comes with several plates (including one for RMR footprint). The design uses more contact points and a crush-washer style system. Note: there’s still a small gap at the front and rear of the plate.

6:50 Because the optic sits low, you’ll need suppressor-height or taller sights if you want to co-witness.

7:59 Internals: Single polymer guide rod (back to older style), and the trigger is a flatter-faced design. Trigger pull came in around 5.5 – 6 lbs.

9:01 Trigger pull has some take-up, a bit of wall, then break. Reset is positive. It’s decent for a stock Glock but still not amazing. It should improve with break-in.

9:52 Overall Impressions: Glock has made some really good ergonomic improvements — especially the grip texturing, undercut, and beavertail. The new optics mounting system is also a solid upgrade. It feels much better in the hand than the Gen 5. The changes are long overdue and welcomed.

12:40 Gen 5 vs Gen 6 Quick Comparison: The Gen 6 has much more aggressive texturing, better trigger undercut, improved slide serrations, beefed-up slide release, and the new optics system. If you’re happy with your Gen 5 there’s no urgent need to upgrade, but if you’re buying new, I’d currently lean toward the Gen 6 for the better ergonomics.
