Build Quality

Aero Precision is known for its high-quality manufacturing processes, and this AR-15 is no different. The receivers are machined to tight tolerances, ensuring a solid fit and finish. The use of 7075-T6 aluminum for the receivers contributes to the rifle’s durability without adding unnecessary weight.

The Aero Precision AR-15 is known for its accuracy, particularly in the 16-inch barrel configuration. The free-floating handguard and quality barrel contribute to consistent shot placement. With the right ammunition, users can expect sub-MOA accuracy at 100 yards. The mid-length gas system also plays a role in reducing recoil, which helps maintain accuracy during rapid fire.

The rifle’s design prioritizes user comfort and customization. The adjustable SL-S carbine stock allows shooters to find the optimal length of pull, while the 15″ Atlas M-LOK free-float handguard provides a comfortable grip and plenty of space for mounting accessories. The overall balance of the rifle is well-suited for both static shooting and dynamic movement.

Reliability

Aero Precision rifles are built to run reliably under various conditions. The mid-length gas system offers a good balance between reliability and recoil management, and the high-quality materials used in the barrel and phosphate BCG ensure long-term durability. 0:05 Hey everybody, welcome back to the Armed Scotsman. Today on the table we have an Aero Precision AR-15. Let’s get this one going.

0:55 Alright folks, as I said this is an AR-15 by Aero Precision. This is the first complete Aero AR-15 that I have reviewed, so I’m pretty excited about this one.

1:12 I bought this as a kit. It came with a complete upper and a complete lower. The lower shipped to my FFL and the upper shipped directly to me along with some other goodies.

1:28 What came with it: the gun itself, three 30-round M2 mags, and a very nice Tac Six range bag. Overall, a nice little package.

1:52 It comes with some very nice Magpul furniture right out of the box. First, the Magpul STR stock — really like this one. It has a nice rubber butt pad, QD sling attachments, and adjusts easily with very little wiggle. It also has a larger cheek weld for comfort.

2:30 It has storage compartments on both sides — just pull the rubber tabs and you can store batteries or other small items.

2:47 Mil-spec buffer tube. The castle nut has been staked — one side very well, the other a little off, but overall decent.

3:02 Upper and lower are 7075-T6 aluminum. The upper is the M4E1 style, which looks great. I personally wish it came with the matching M4E1 lower, but it’s still a nice lower.

3:40 It has a non-ambi safety and standard bolt catch. The big upgrade is this ambi breach charging handle from Aero Precision. First time using one and I really like it. Nice texturing, smooth operation, and it sits tight.

4:18 More Magpul furniture — the MOE grip. Nice texturing, excellent angle, and has a storage compartment. Enhanced trigger guard with Aero Precision branding and what look like anti-walk pins — very convenient.

5:04 Slightly flared magwell. The trigger is a standard single-stage mil-spec trigger. It has some take-up, a decent break, but I did notice a reset issue when letting off very slowly.

6:16 Full-length 1913 Picatinny rail on top with T-markings and lightening cutouts. QD sling attachments on the handguard and M-Lok slots at 3, 6, and 9 o’clock positions.

7:01 The handguard is a bit thicker than I’m used to but still allows a good C-clamp grip. Nice texturing and heat dispersion cutouts.

7:23 16-inch barrel, .223 Wylde chamber (shoots both .223 and 5.56), mid-length gas system, 1/2×28 thread pitch with birdcage flash hider.

7:57 Let’s take it down and look at the BCG. Phosphate coated bolt carrier group, good staking, MPI tested, Carpenter 158 steel bolt. Fit and finish looks excellent — no blemishes.

8:37 Shooting impressions: No problems at all while actually shooting. The trigger reset issue only appeared when I was being extremely slow on the reset. Otherwise the gun ran very smoothly.

9:02 Overall I really like this rifle, especially for the price point. Nice Magpul stock and grip, excellent handguard, mid-length gas system, and good fit and finish. The complete kit with bag and three mags came in at around $800 out the door.
