Build Quality & Components
Built with forged 1.5mm stamped steel receiver and hammer-forged front trunnion, bolt, and carrier for superior strength and durability. The gas-nitrided 4150 steel barrel resists corrosion and maintains accuracy through high round counts. Classic polymer furniture keeps weight down while providing a familiar AK feel. Fit and finish are significantly improved over earlier PSA AKs—minimal slop, smooth action, and solid construction—backed by PSA’s lifetime warranty and excellent user feedback.
Handguard & Modularity — Standout Feature
Traditional Soviet side rail enables easy optics mounting with popular aftermarket adapters (Midwest Industries, RS Regulate). Classic polymer handguard is heat-resistant and comfortable; fixed stock is sturdy and upgradable to folding or adjustable options. Compatibility with most AK-47 magazines (surplus steel, PSA polymer) and vast AK aftermarket support allow extensive customization—perfect for range upgrades, hunting, or defensive builds while preserving the timeless AK silhouette.
Accuracy & Performance
The 16″ chrome-lined barrel with 1:9.5 twist delivers solid AK accuracy—consistent 2–4 MOA groups at 100 yards with quality ammo, tighter with match loads. Recoil is manageable for 7.62x39mm; the rifle stays on target for rapid follow-ups. Performance excels across ammo types (steel-case, brass, surplus)—smooth cycling, reliable feeding/ejection, and durable operation in dirty or adverse conditions—proven through hundreds of rounds in testing.
Installation & Real-World Durability
Ready out of the box—load mag, rack, and shoot. Optics mount to side rail with adapter; furniture swaps easily. Durability is exceptional: forged steel components and nitride barrel resist wear, corrosion, and abuse. Users report thousands of rounds with minimal maintenance—ideal for hard use in range, hunting, or defensive scenarios.

What does GF3 mean?
GF3 stands for Generation 3, which is PSA’s upgraded AK-47 series featuring hammer-forged bolt, carrier, and front trunnion for improved durability and longevity.
Is the PSA GF3 reliable with steel-cased ammo?
Yes. The rifle is designed and tested to run inexpensive steel-cased 7.62×39 ammunition such as Wolf or Tula with excellent reliability.
What is the difference between the regular and blem version?
Blem models may have small cosmetic imperfections in the finish but are mechanically identical and fully functional. They are usually sold at a lower price.
Can I mount optics on the GF3?
Yes. The rifle includes a traditional Soviet-style side rail that allows optics mounting using aftermarket adapters such as those from Midwest Industries or RS Regulate.
Does the GF3 come with a magazine?
Yes. The rifle typically ships with one 30-round magazine where legally allowed.
What colors are available?
The polymer furniture is offered in several colors including Black, Olive Drab Green (ODG), Plum, Flat Dark Earth (FDE), and Gray.
How does the trigger feel?
The rifle uses a standard mil-spec single-hook AK trigger that typically breaks around 5–6 pounds. It works well but many owners upgrade to aftermarket triggers like ALG for a smoother pull.

Full Video Transcript – PSA GF3 AK Review
0:57 Alright folks, as I said, this is PSA’s best-selling AK, the GF3 from their model lineup. Let’s dive right in. It’s chambered in 7.62×39.
1:15 Starting at the back here you have a polymer OD Green buttstock with a metal butt pad. It’s not the most comfortable stock in the world — AKs have some recoil and if you’re shooting all day it can get old — but it functions great.
1:39 You have a standard sling attachment. The stock attaches with one screw, so changing the furniture on this gun is very simple and inexpensive if you want to customize it later.
2:09 Moving along, you have your dust cover with the takedown button. On the left side you have a side mount rail so you can add a separate mount for a red dot or optic.
2:42 The polymer grip has texturing on the sides but not much on the front or back. It feels okay, but I wish it was a bit grippier, especially if your hands get wet.
3:05 PSA uses an enhanced safety lever with extra texturing that sticks out a bit further — very easy to manipulate. I’m a big fan of that.
3:32 The receiver is a stamped metal with good-looking rivets. Let’s check out the trigger.
3:46 It’s a single-stage trigger. There’s a bit of take-up followed by a roll-through break. The reset is positive and forceful. Not a bad trigger at all — I got running pretty quick with it. If you want something more refined, an aftermarket trigger like the ALG is a popular upgrade.
4:21 The mag release is a paddle style, which I love. Very intuitive — just thumb it and the mag drops right out.
4:38 It comes with PSA’s standard capacity OD Green polymer magazine. It feels sturdy and well-made.
5:09 Under the dust cover you have the bolt and bolt carrier. Both the bolt, bolt carrier, and front trunnion are hammer-forged — exactly what you want for reliability and longevity.
5:25 You have the classic 800-yard rear sight. Up front is a standard post sight.
5:55 The handguard is the classic AK style. If your hands get sweaty it can feel a little slick. The sling mount on the side is attached to the barrel and does get hot after shooting a few hundred rounds.
6:50 The barrel is 16 inches, gas nitride finished 4150 steel with a 1 in 10 twist.
7:53 It has a slant brake that’s very easy to remove and swap thanks to the simple detent system.
8:25 To take it down: Push the takedown button past the dust cover and lift it off. Then remove the guide rod and spring, push the safety down, and pull out the bolt carrier group. Hammer-forged parts, as expected.
9:06 You can also remove the gas tube by lifting the lever.
9:37 Shooting impressions: I put approximately 300 rounds of Bellum 123gr FMJ through it with zero problems. It ran like a champ.
10:10 Things I didn’t love: The buttstock isn’t the most comfortable, and I toasted my hand on the hot side sling mount. But those are minor.
10:26 This is PSA’s best-selling AK largely because of the price. The GF3 (especially blem models) often goes for around $649. That’s extremely reasonable for a solid rifle that comes with a lifetime warranty.
11:07 I have no major complaints. If you don’t like the furniture you can always change it, but this is the classic AK look.
11:17 Alright folks, that’s pretty much it for me. If you have any questions or comments, please let me know down below. Happy to help wherever I can. Until next time, we’ll catch you later.
