Build Quality & Components

Built with a full alloy frame and slide for exceptional longevity and classic P226 balance, the P226-X Legion features a match-grade bull barrel for superior accuracy, refined X-Series ergonomics (undercut trigger guard, enhanced grip texture, improved contouring), and a highly adjustable trigger system. Fit and finish are premium—tight tolerances, smooth operation, and flawless cycling—backed by SIG’s Infinite Guarantee (transferable, no receipt needed) and proven in high-round testing with zero issues.

Handguard & Modularity — Standout Feature

The fully optic-ready slide supports direct-mount for major footprints (no adapters needed for SIG ROMEO, RMR, DeltaPoint Pro, etc.), with a 1913 Picatinny rail for lights, lasers, or foregrips. Full compatibility with the XFIVE-series ecosystem (slides, magwells, grips, controls) enables extensive customization. Flush-fit 18-round steel magazines (3 included) boost capacity without extension; manual thumb safety and adjustable trigger add user tailoring—making it endlessly adaptable for competition, duty, or personal preference while preserving the iconic P226 profile.

Accuracy & Performance

The match-grade bull barrel and adjustable trigger deliver outstanding accuracy—sub-2″ groups at 25 yards with quality ammo. Recoil is flat and controllable thanks to the all-metal weight, bull barrel, and enhanced ergonomics; trigger (crisp SAO or classic DA/SA) offers short reset and minimal take-up. Performance is elite—flawless feeding/ejection across ammo types, fast follow-ups, and reliable function under high-volume or adverse conditions—ideal for precision shooting, rapid drills, or defensive use.

Installation & Real-World Durability

Ready out of the box—load magazines, mount optic via included plates if desired, and shoot. Optics install directly with torque specs; adjustments are precise. Durability is generational: all-metal construction resists wear, corrosion, and abuse; handles thousands of rounds with minimal maintenance. Proven SIG reliability in military/LE heritage ensures it thrives in demanding scenarios—backed by the Infinite Guarantee for lifelong confidence.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the P226-X Legion worth the $1,800 price?

Yes — if you value all-metal construction, 18+1 capacity, full adjustability, and endless customization. It’s a premium tool built to last a lifetime.

Does it come with iron sights?

No — it ships optic-ready with plates only. Iron sights are available separately or you can run it suppressor-height with your optic.

Which trigger is better — AX1 or AX2?

AX1 (SAO) for competition and range work; AX2 (DA/SA) if you prefer the classic P226 feel with a manual safety.

Will it fit my existing P226 holsters?

Most will fit, but test any retention holsters due to the new X-Series frame contours and rail.

Can I mount any optic?

Yes — direct mount for the most popular footprints (RMR, DeltaPoint Pro, ROMEO series, etc.). No plates needed for supported optics.

Is the XCarry version worth considering?

Absolutely — the 3.8″ barrel version offers better concealability while keeping nearly all the full-size features and 18+1 capacity.

How does the trigger compare to previous P226 models?

Significantly better — fully adjustable with crisp, short reset and minimal take-up on both AX1 and AX2 options.

Full Video Transcript – Sig P226X Legion SAO Review

0:05 Hey everybody, welcome back to the Armed Scotsman. Today on the table we have a Sig P226X Legion. Let’s check this one out.

0:43 This is the full-size single-action-only (SAO) model. It comes with three 18-round magazines (where legal), a hard case, and improved features over the previous Legion models.

1:48 The P226X Legion has an aluminum frame and weighs around 32–34 oz. It features a slightly flared magwell, aggressive front strap texturing, excellent G10 grips with the Legion logo, a good trigger undercut, and a high beavertail. The grip feels very comfortable in the hand.

3:12 The trigger is adjustable (take-up, overtravel, and weight). It has a very nice flat-faced trigger with excellent texturing on the mag release and trigger guard.

3:56 This is a true single-action-only pistol, so you can carry it cocked-and-locked like a 1911. The safety is positive and acts as a natural thumb rest/gas pedal. The slide release and takedown lever are easy to manipulate.

5:32 It has front and rear serrations and a beautiful dark gray/gunmetal finish. Sights are Sig X-Ray night sights — green front with tritium rear — which perform very well out of the box.

6:31 The new Sig Lock optics mounting system is interesting. The optic slides under a lip at the front and is secured with screws that go through the slide. It also accepts other plates for different footprints.

7:57 Internals include a 4.4″ match-grade bull barrel with recessed crown (a nice upgrade) and full-length rails. The slide has a deliberate uncoated section on the rails.

11:04 Trigger pull is very light — around 3 lb 2 oz to 3 lb 6 oz out of the box. Excellent break, but the reset is quite weak and not as positive as I would like.

12:47 After 500+ rounds of 115gr and 124gr ammo, the gun ran flawlessly. Very soft shooting, accurate, and a pleasure to shoot. The bull barrel seems to deliver good accuracy.

13:27 Final Thoughts: The P226 platform is one of my favorites, and the X Legion brings solid improvements — better ergonomics, upgraded grips, more capacity (18 rounds), bull barrel, adjustable trigger, and a new optics system. The reset is my only real gripe; I wish it was more positive. Overall, this is a very nice upgrade over the previous Legion. If you’re buying a new one, I’d go with the X Legion. Highly recommended if you like the P226 platform.
