0:05 Hey everybody, welcome back to the Armed Scotsman. Today on the table we have Beretta’s 92XI SAO Tactical. Bit of a mouthful. Let’s get this going.
0:51 Alright folks, as I said this is Beretta’s 92XI SAO Tactical. SAO standing for Single Action Only tactical model. The XI actually, if you think about Roman numerals, is 11 — so this is a 92-11. This is Beretta’s offering into the 2011 field. Let’s go ahead and go over this gun.

1:25 Let’s talk about what comes with the gun. This particular model comes with 28-round metal mags. You’ll also be able to get 15-round and 10-round mags depending on where you live. There are a ton of aftermarket magazines available for the 92 series because they’ve been around since the late 70s, so you won’t be short on options.
1:52 The overall gun without the light weighs 33 oz unloaded. It has an aluminum frame, not stainless steel, so it still has some weight but isn’t as heavy as a full stainless gun.
2:07 Let’s start at the grips. These are polymer grips with really nice texturing. They’ve got the Beretta logo and you can remove them with two screws.
2:14 Moving to the back of the gun, you’ve got really nice aggressive checkering cut directly into the aluminum. Same on the other side. On the front of the grip you have more texturing. I have medium-sized hands and it fits really well. Very nice 1911-style grip angle with a good trigger undercut.
2:49 You have your safety right here — it’s extended, sits out from the frame a little more, and has nice texturing. It is reversible for left-handed shooters.
3:13 This one has a Picatinny rail up front so you can attach a light or whatever you want. This is your takedown lever. This is your slide catch / slide release.
3:30 Being single action only, we have an external safety on the side here — very reminiscent of a 1911/2011 safety. It’s ambidextrous. Down is fire, up is safe. You can run it cocked and locked.
4:04 This gun was lent to me for the review. One complaint the owner had was this corner right here was rubbing and pinching his hand, so he took a Dremel tool and smoothed it out a little. I didn’t notice any issue when shooting.
4:26 You’ve got a really nice beavertail. The finish on this is Cerakote — very durable, nice gunmetal gray color. The barrel has the same finish. Looks really good with the black accents.
